SUMMARY:Family Butterfly Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come join us on Saturday 18th July 2-3pm. \nSuitable for families with children (recommended for ages 5–16). Children must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease note: If wet weather prevents the event from taking place\, our back-up date is Saturday 1st August\, so please make sure you can attend both dates before booking. \nBecome a butterfly detective for the morning and help us discover the amazing butterflies and moths that call Woodoaks Farm home! \nJoin butterfly enthusiast and Woodoaks volunteer Christine Bessant\, and Young Woodoaks Ambassador’s Izzy and Rishaan  on a fun family walk around the farm as we search for colourful butterflies fluttering through the meadows and hedgerows. Keep your eyes peeled for favourites such as the Peacock\, Red Admiral and Small Tortoiseshell\, along with grassland butterflies including Meadow Brown\, Ringlet\, Gatekeeper and Skippers. \nIf we’re really lucky\, we might even spot the beautiful Marbled White or the tiny Small Heath. \nWe’ll also have the chance to meet some of the farm’s fascinating moths! \nWoodoaks volunteer and moth expert John Mynett will open a moth trap that has been safely set the night before\, to hopefully give us a rare opportunity to see these incredible night-time pollinators up close before they are released back into the wild. \nDuring our adventure we’ll be taking part in the Big Butterfly Count\, a nationwide citizen science project that helps scientists understand how butterflies are doing across the UK. Every butterfly we spot and count contributes to protecting nature. \nYou don’t need any special equipment—just bring your curiosity\, your sharpest spotting skills and a sense of adventure! \nThe paths are uneven in places\, so sturdy shoes are recommended. Please dress for the weather\, wear layers and bring a water bottle. \nIf you’d like\, you can download a butterfly identification chart before you come\, or go paper-free by downloading the free Big Butterfly Count app to help identify and record your sightings \nAs we are trying not to disturb the wildlife on our walk we would kindly ask for you to leave your dogs at home on this occasion.
