SUMMARY:FAMILY EVENING BAT WALK
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a nature night-time adventure to discover what bats can be found on Woodoaks Farm.\nUnder the guidance of Christina Bessant\, you will learn how to use a bat detector to scan the skies and identify the bat species you are able to listen to. \nChristina is an ecologist with superb knowledge of the wildlife that occurs in the UK. As a committee member of Ruislip and District Natural History Society and Deputy Chair of the Maple Lodge Conservation Society\, Christina helps both teams to regularly survey their local bat population. \nAlongside our volunteer entomologist John Mynett\, we will also get a chance to see what moths might be flying that night – a rich food source for the bats. \nWhen: Friday 24th April – please note this will move to Saturday 25th April if wet weather\, so you must be available for BOTH dates. \nTime: 8.00-9.00pm \nFind us: Woodoaks Farm\, Denham Way\, Maple Cross\, Herts. WD3 9XQ (Junction 17 of M25 – entrance opposite the grey hoarding boards). \nCost: Children £4.00 / Adults £6.00 – plus additional booking fee. \nBring: A torch & bat detector if you have one. We will be providing shared bat detectors for those that need them. \nWear: Walk includes some hills and uneven ground so appropriate footwear is recommended. \nAccess: If you would like to join us but need some assistance please call us on 07754 035614. We will do our best to help you and can arrange volunteer assistance. \nAll Terrain Tramper: We have one ticket available of our all terrain tramper which will allow anyone with limited mobility to join us. Please note when booking this you will need to arrive at 7.30 for detailed instructions prior to use. \nWet Weather Cancellation Details – in the eventuality of rain we will have to postpone the walk and will inform you of this decision on the morning of Friday 24th and Saturday 25th via email. \nChildren: Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. \nDogs: We are keen to not disturb the wildlife as we walk\, so we would ask that you do not bring your dog on this occasion. \nBooking: Places for the Bat Walk are limited so booking is necessary.

SUMMARY:DAWN CHORUS WALK SATURDAY 25TH APRIL
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our very special Dawn Chorus Bird Walk where we will be treated to the delightful morning melodies from our resident birds such as Blackbird\, Song Thrush\, Wren\, Robin\, Dunnock\, Chaffinch and Skylark. \nWe may also hear migrant species that have travelled thousands of miles from their wintering grounds\, now preparing to breed\, with males singing to attract a mate. \nSpecies such as Blackcap\, (also known as the Northern Nightingale) due to its fluting song\, should be heard plus Chiffchaff\, Common Whitethroat and maybe the rarer Lesser Whitethroat too. \nIf the weather is kind we should also have a wonderful view of the sun as it rises in the east at approx 5:45am. \nLocal Birders Stephen Carter and Paul Lewis\, alongside farm ranger Steve Dutch\, will be guiding us through the morning\, answering questions\, highlighting and identifying birdsong and enabling us to get a close look at our feathered friends using their specialist birding monocular. \nWhen: Saturday April 25th – 5am-7am. \nWhere: Woodoaks Farm Maple Cross.WD3 9QX. Located just minutes away from Junction 17 of M25. \nWho: Adults and children. 12+ years. All children to be accompanied by an adult. \nCost: \n\n£5 Adults\n£4 Children.\n\nWhat to wear and Bring: Wear sturdy shoes or walking boots as the tracks around the farm are uneven or may be muddy. \nDogs: As we are keen not to disturb the wildlife\, we would ask for you to leave your dogs at home on this occasion – however guide dogs are welcome. \nAccess: \nWith uneven tracks and hills en route and the possibility of mud and puddles we are sorry to say that the route will not be manageable by unmotorised wheelchairs. \nWe do have one all terrain scooter available that can manage this route easily. This will be bookable on a first come first served basis. Please book the Tramper ticket and and then email us at info@woodoaksfarm.com so we can arrange and ‘driving induction’ in advance. You will need to arrive 10 minutes early to complete this. \nWoodoaks Farm Volunteer sight guides will be available for the walk. On booking your ticket please indicate your interest in a sight guide for the morning and email us at woodoaksfarm@gmail.com to make sure we can have a volunteer available for you.

SUMMARY:WILD LONDON - A Talk and Photographic Journey with @TheEarlyBirder AKA Jon Mason
DESCRIPTION:Our cities can be as much a haven for wildlife as they are a home for us. \nWe are delighted to welcome back Jon Mason aka @theearlybirder for another fascinating talk. \nThis time Jon will be examining the creatures that have made a success of living alongside us:- intelligent opportunists\, able to take advantage of the transient habitats that we create. \nJon Mason\, (known on social media as theearlybirder\,) was born and grew up in London and will draw from years of observing wildlife in our capital and other cities to illustrate this exploration of urban nature. \nLight refreshments will be available on the night. \nPlease Note: There is plenty of parking available however we would always encourage you to walk\, cycle\, take public transport or car share to be kinder on the planet. \nThe event takes place in our glorious 16th Century Black Barn. It’s pretty rustic – so do bring extra layers and maybe a cushion if you fancy. We want you to be warm and comfortable for the evening. \nAccess to The Black Barn is a little uneven so do wear sturdy shoes.  If additional assistance is needed in any way please email us on info@woodoaksfarm.com. \nFor sat-nav directions use WD3 9AB
