DESCRIPTION:If are drawn to handmade crafts using traditional techniques\, or the satisfaction of working with your hands – this one’s for you!  \nWoodoaks Farm are offering two very special\, one day courses in wood turning and carving with the brilliant Ali Asadi taking place on Saturday and Sunday 4th and 5th July at Woodoaks Farm. \nAli will use timber from Bottom Wood\, helping participants to transform a single harvested trunk into bowls that showcase the traditional heritage skill of pole-lathe turning with green wood. \nDuring the one day course\, you will learn how to design and shape a bowl\, how to create a bowl blank and how to turn it into a finished product\, while turning greenwood on a pole lathe and using traditional hand tools. \nThe bowl you make will be suitable for hot food. \nCourse begins with splitting the log and axing out a blank for your bowl. Then you will start turning\, using the foot-powered pole lathe with hand-forged hook tools. At the end of the day\, you will use a hook knife to carve and smooth out the final step. \n💚 Cost: £130 – includes lunch\, all training\, tools\, wood & end product.\n📅 Dates: Saturday 4th July or Sunday 5th July.\n⏰ 10-5pm – lunch included.\n📍 Location: The Black Barn\, Cart Sheds. Denham Way\, Maple Cross. Herts WD3 9XQ. \nLunch plus teas and coffees throughout the day will be provided. \nThe Tea Shack café and onsite craft brewery Creative Juices Brewing Company are also available plus free toilets and parking. \nTickets are limited to 6 people per workshop so book early to avoid disappointment.  \nAbout Ali \nAli Asadi carved his first spoon in 2015 and fell in love with both the process and the techniques of green woodworking. Following lots of self practice\, attending community carving events and learning opportunities\, Ali was lucky enough to spend some time with pole lathe bowl turners Sharif Adams and Adrian Llyod\, both well respected amongst the craft community. \nEver since Ali has been turning and carving non stop. Hundreds of bowls\, end grain cups as well as more specialist items including locking lidded boxes\, nested bowls as well as Alis beautiful plates. \nOver the last 5 years\, Ali has been forging his own turning tools\, teaching courses in all things greenwood as well as undertaking demonstrations to communicate the craft to the public at events nationwide and at his own workshop in Stevenage.
