On Friday evening Sally Findlay and Rose Lewis took a moment to join the team at Three Rivers Museum and meet those who have been integral to a superb exhibition based on the recently discovered John White Diaries.
John White was a Victorian Farmer who kept a detailed diary every day of his working life, from 1841 to 1896. Some of the beautiful volumes have been lost, but the rest of the collection were gifted to the museum by the Hounsfield family.
The exhibition draws on what John White recorded of his work, his business contacts, friends and family to show something of what farming life was like in the second half of the nineteenth century and quite frankly is fascinating! What is of particular interest is the references over the 50 years to WOODOAKS FARM and his relationship with John Proctor and the Sedgewicks.
This PROJECT HARVEST exhibition is one of the outcomes of a collaborative co-production project between Three Rivers Museum and the University of Hertfordshire. Researching a Victorian Enterprise for a Sustainable Tomorrow.
