Swiss Architecture Students visit Woodoaks to Explore Lime Rendering using Farm Sourced Materials

Over the weekend a brilliant group of Architecture students from EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland, travelled to Woodoaks to carry out site investigations for their design projects.

The team explored the farm and took part in lime render workshops using locally sourced materials.

As part of the workshop, they searched Woodoaks for suitable aggregates, collecting and processing bricks, ceramics, concrete, discarded snail shells, and stone.
The workshops will both inform the students’ imagined projects set at Woodoaks and also contributes to ongoing design research on using site-based materials for construction at Woodoaks.

When we stepped back for just one moment, we realised the creative layers and textures on our farm over just a few days…

Along the track Friday volunteers creating wildlife habitats for nature as they topped the hedges to encourage denser growth. In the woods Grow Wild Club forest school creating nature connection and precious memories with parents and children. Saturday Zumba with Flo, LV FITT Bootcamp, Sunday’s Yoga and Rickey’s Farm Shop – all helping to create healthy bodies and minds. Creative Juices Brewing Company and The Tea Shack creating amazing food and drink offerings and Romey Brough in her studio creating beautiful works of art. How lucky we are to have this fertile and beautiful space to commune and create in.
